We had such a great day in first grade today! Your child brought home their second piece of homework ever! Today was a page for reading. This is taken from their reading workbook and focuses on the skills we are working on this week in reading. It is double sided, so make sure to check both sides! Most of the time Math homework will be sent home on Monday and Reading homework will be sent home on Tuesday.
They also brought home their blue story words. Be sure to cut those out and put them in the envelope that was sent home last week. Practice reading (and even spelling) those words!
Another page that was sent home today was a green page showing all the spelling bonus words for each week. Those are the same words as the blue cards. All the children will be given a chance to spell the bonus words, but will only receive the points for the words if the 10 weekly spelling words are spelled correctly.
Finally, the students started tracking their own behavior by coloring in the "How Am I Doing Today?" half sheet. This paper should stay in their folder for the week. It is for them to show you how they are behaving in school. If they are on green, this is GREAT! They are following all the classroom rules and expectations. If it is yellow, it means they had to have a few warnings about the classroom rules and expectations. If their circle is colored red, this means they were having a very hard time meeting the classroom rules and expectations, or they misbehaved in a way that injured or threatened someone else. If they have a red, you will be receiving a phone call from me and your child will need to speak to Dr. Turner about their behavior. If you see a star drawn in the circle, this means your child was on Super Star! This means they went above and beyond the classroom expectations or showed amazing character! They will also receive a special certificate to celebrate their achievement. Please make sure you sign the bottom at the end of the week so I know you've seen it. If there is a red or yellow, please initial the box so I know you've seen it that day. The kids should bring the signed page back to school on Monday and turn it into me.
Thanks for all your help in this. As always, let me know if you have any questions. I'll be sending a paper copy of this behavior management program tomorrow and I will cover it more in depth at Curriculum Night!
