Happy Thursday!
I just wanted to inform you of a new phrase or saying that we are implementing school wide. We are promoting students to be "Bucket Fillers" instead of "Bucket Dippers". This is to promote respectfulness in school. We first heard about "filling a bucket" at our Character Counts Respect assembly yesterday afternoon. We discussed how we all have a little invisible bucket inside of us that helps control how we feel. When our bucket is full, we feel happy and excited to spread that happiness to others. When our bucket is empty, we feel sad and down. We read a book as a whole school that talked about how we can be "Bucket Fillers" by building people up and doing nice things instead of being "Bucket Dippers" by tearing others down and being disrespectful. In our class, I am taking this a step further. I really want to promote a respectful environment in the classroom, where everyone feels welcome and included. The students and I brainstormed a list of bucket filling behaviors and bucket dipping behaviors. They seem to really grasp the idea of this and have been doing such a great job of filling each others' buckets. Hopefully this type of behavior will continue. If you'd like to extend this on to home, feel free. I've attached a picture of our bucket filling and dipping chart to see what we discussed in the classroom. If you want more information, please visit this website: www.bucketfillers101.com to learn more about the idea behind the bucket.
Also- we are in the final stretch of Going Batty for Books! You may have your child bring in as many bats as they want these next few days so they can meet their goal!
