Monday stuff and Movie Night

Happy Monday!

Our week is off to a wonderful start!  I wanted to give you all a quick heads up on a note that was sent home today on light purple paper.  I would like to see the new Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs movie and thought it would be fun to see it with the whole class. The note has all the information and I would love to see you all there!  I heard it was pretty cute.  I'll be getting there around 6:10 ish and waiting in the lobby until 6:20-6:25 ish so that we can all get seats together.  If your child would like to come, just make sure they are there with an adult.  Thanks!

We are finishing up Topic 5 in Math this week.  Our quiz will be on Friday and the test will be the following Tuesday since we are off for Columbus Day that Monday.  The students are doing a nice job using the different strategies we are learning to solve the math problems.  I am very proud of their progress.  Their confidence in their math skills is growing every day!

We are reading the story "All That Corn" this week in Reading.  It is a non-fiction story about a farm.  This is the last story in our first Reading unit.  Next week your child will be assessed on their ability to read the high frequency story words (the blue word cards), so please be sure to keep practicing those.  I will send home a list of all the words at the end of the week to practice over the weekend.  They will also be getting assessed on the skills they learned each week in grammar and spelling.  Since there is no new story next week, there will not be new spelling or story words.

We just finished learning about Christopher Columbus in Social Studies.  We watched a short video about his life and read about him in our Social Studies textbook.  We wrote down our favorite Columbus fact and made a special project with the fact.  This week we are focusing on our Culture unit in which we learn about our families and neighbors.

I hope you are all having a great start to your week!  Hope to see you at the movie!
:) Ms. Petrucci
