Hello!
I hope you all had a wonderful and relaxing Thanksgiving and break! I'm glad to be back and looking forward to December and all the fun activities we are going to do this upcoming month!
In first grade, we do a unit on Holidays Around the World, where we learn about different cultures and how they celebrate Christmas and winter holidays in other countries. During this unit, we also talk about our own family's holiday traditions. Your child brought home a red paper with a lined index card attached to it. Their homework (due on Monday) is to write down a holiday tradition your family has. It could be related to any part of the holiday season, or even winter. It could even be a new tradition you are starting this year! Please make sure your child is the one filling out the card, even if you are helping them write and brainstorm. These are going to be part of a bulletin board display in our hallway. The one thing I ask is that you have your child write a rough draft on a separate sheet of paper first, then go over any mistakes they may have made (spelling or grammar errors) and fix them before writing the final copy on their note card (with their NEATEST handwriting). Also make sure their name is on the card (either on the front or the back). Try to fit everything on the lined portion of the index card as we will be gluing the index card to another piece of paper.
Thanks for helping your child out with this project! It will be fun to start talking about holiday traditions to get into the holiday spirit!
