We had a great week here in first grade! We're almost ready for winter break!
We just finished our first story in our third reading book called "I Am a Butterfly". We learned about a butterfly's life cycle. The children had lots of background knowledge on this since most of them studied butterflies in Kindergarten!
In math, we just learned how to read a 100s chart and how to skip count by 2's, 5's and 10's. This is a skill we really need to practice a lot to help get us ready for multiplication when they become second and third graders! Ask your child to skip count for you and see how high they can get!
In Social Studies, we traveled to the lands of Germany, Italy and England! In England, we had a pretty crazy tour guide who talked in a funny English accent ;) We had a lot of fun and learned a lot about different cultures.
We have been working on many different holiday and winter projects to decorate our room and get us in the holiday spirit! We can't wait to show them to you!
Today, the entire first grade got to watch the second graders perform their holiday program. The second graders did a great job and it the first graders excited to put on a show next year!
Our classroom holiday party is right around the corner. It is scheduled for Friday afternoon. Please check your email for a note from the party committee. They are looking for donations for the party. I'm looking forward to a "jolly" good time.
Remember- next week is the last week to turn in snow balls for our December reading program! You can bring in as many as you want next week to earn the prize!
Have a great weekend!
:) Ms. Petrucci
