We are on our 110th day of first grade! Pretty unbelievable if you ask me!
The students are working hard as always and they keep impressing me every day! In Reading and Language Arts we just started our fourth unit! This week we are working with the long e spelling pattern. The words will either end with the long e sound, or have "ee" or "ea" in the middle to produce the long e sound. In grammar, we are focusing on names of holidays and how they will always start with a capital letter. We had fun brainstorming holidays! There were A LOT more than we thought!
We finished up our last lesson in for Topic 10 today. We spent a couple days working on regrouping since there was one lesson devoted to it in our series. The students picked it up pretty quickly! The one thing I really want them to pay attention to is when they write vertical addition with 2 digit numbers is to line up both numbers they are adding in the tens and one place. We will take the quiz tomorrow and the test on Friday since we are doing special math for Valentine's Day. We will start topic 11 on Monday.
In Social Studies, we just finished learning about Abraham Lincoln. The students brainstormed facts about "Honest Abe" and were able to write some of those facts down on a special project. This week we will cover George Washington and also begin our Dental Health Unit.
Keep practicing spelling words, story words and math facts at home. Every bit helps your child achieve more success in school!
Have a great week!
Ms. Petrucci
