Happy St. Patrick's Day

It's almost time for St. Patty's Day!  Our leprechaun friends have not visited us yet, but I think they are trying to trick us and may be paying us a visit on Monday after they've finished their celebration....

We've had a busy week, but we have been working hard and being awesome first graders!

The students have been hard at work typing their animal reports they worked so hard on at home.  They practiced their typing skills and wrote their first ever school report!  The reports are awesome and we can't wait for you all to see the finished project at Celebration of Learning in April!

We just finished our Measurement unit in math, where we practiced measuring using non-standard units.  Our next unit will be a short one focusing on Telling Time.  We will only have a quiz on this unit since Spring Break is right around the corner!  We will focus on telling time to the hour and half hour.

In Spelling next week, we are focusing on the ow/ou vowel sound.  The words continue to increase in difficulty, so please remember to practice them EVERY night!  We FINALLY reached our spelling goal of all students getting a 10/10 on their weekly spelling test!  WAY TO GO!  They've earned a switcheroo desk reward so they can sit by a buddy!

We are also starting a new social studies unit, All About Work.  We will learn about needs and wants and different types of jobs in a community.  We just finished our two units in health about our body and germs.

In Reading, we will be reading a non-fiction interview story, On The Job With Dr. Martha Smith, who is a veterinarian.  Please make sure to keep reading the blue story word cards so the children will be ready for their end of unit test.  We will continue to learn about describing words, focusing on taste, smell, sound and feel (the senses).

Please make sure you check the homework schedule to make sure your child is getting everything in on time!  They will be receiving a Kite writing project today that is due next week.  Also, please make sure to get your child's field trip permission slip and money in to me on or before Friday the 22nd.  It's important to get all the slips, otherwise we will not be able to order the tickets.

Thank you and have a wonderful St. Patrick's Day Weekend!
