Monday Madness ;)

Happy Monday after Daylight Savings! I'm sure I'm not the only one dragging a little today!  We are getting back into the swing of things after a few short weeks of school.  Only 2 more weeks until Spring Break!  Time is FLYING!

This week the students are reading a story called "My Robot" in their reading books.  It's a futuristic fantasy story about what it would be like to have a robot as a friend.  It's a very cute story that the students love!  We are also focusing on describing words for colors, shapes, and sizes.  The spelling pattern for this week is long i with a silent e and a soft c (a c that sounds like an s).  Practice words that follow this pattern that aren't spelling words to truly see if your child is understanding the spelling pattern for this week and not just memorizing the weekly words.

We are finishing up our measurement unit in math this week.  Our quiz will be on Wednesday and the test will be Friday.  We have been measuring with non-standard units such as blocks and paper clips.  Try measuring some different things in your house using different items (paper clips, crayons, coins, string, etc).  You could even compare your measurements using different units.  We've had a lot of fun measuring furniture in our classroom and the supplies in our supply boxes!  We will be focusing on telling time next week.

In health, we just finished our unit on the human body and we will be talking about germs and sickness this week.  At home, talk about ways you can prevent sickness and germs from spreading if you do get sick.

Just a quick reminder to have your child complete his or her animal report ASAP.  These were due today and we are going to start typing them tomorrow.  They need to be typed and ready so Mrs. Reuter and Mrs. Collins can attach them to their projects they are making in the media center to be displayed.  Thank you!

Have a great week!
Ms. Petrucci
