Second Day Update

Hello!
Enjoying the weather outside on the first day of school!

The second day of first grade is completed!  The students are continuing to learn all the different classroom rules and procedures.  They are doing a great job and catching up fast!  I'm very proud of their hard work so far.

We have already started reviewing skills from Kindergarten.  Yesterday we focused on the letters M and S as well as the sight words a, I, my and the.  Today we focused on the letters R and T as well as the sight words go, on, like and we.  We also wrote a full sentence in our journals!

Today the first graders also got to meet our brand new art teacher, Ms. Marino.  They had a blast in art and are excited to go there every Thursday.  They also got to experience indoor recess.  They were excited to play with all the toys since we don't have "play time" in first grade.

This afternoon, we read the story "David Goes to School".  We were able to discuss all the rules David broke in school and why it is important to follow the rules in school.  We talked about our three classroom rues: "Be Respectful, Be Responsible and Be Safe".  We then brainstormed ways we could follow those rules in our classroom and school.  I created three posters with the rules on them and had the students sign each one.  These will be on display in our classroom as a reminder that we agreed to follow the rules on the first day.  After we discussed the rules, the students made their own David craft with our three rules on it.  These will be on display in the hallway for all to see on Curriculum Night!

We've had a great couple of days and I look forward to many more with this lovely group of students!

As always, if you have any questions, comments, concerns, etc, please feel free to call or email me!
Have a wonderful day!
:) Ms. Petrucci
