Monday News

Happy last day of September!  Can you believe it? Time is FLYING by!

A few quick updates....
I changed the homework from Math to Reading today since the students had a good grasp on the math concept today.  Tomorrow's concept will be a bit more difficult, so I decided they would need a bit more reinforcement of that concept through their homework.

The students brought home a few new things in their folders today.  The first thing is the "Batty for Books" packet.  This is a reading incentive program designed to promote reading at home.  Every night your child reads a book at home, they can fill out a bat.  Those bats can be brought to school and will be put on a bulletin board.  Once your child reads 10 books, they will receive a small prize and a certificate to display on his or her locker.

A few reminders for the reading incentive program:
  • The students are limited to bringing ONE bat in per day (even for the weekends).  If they bring in more than one, only one will be put up at a time.
  • If your child is not yet a reader, they can have a book read to them instead.
  • If your child is reading chapter books, they may fill out a bat for each chapter(s) read each night.
  • If your child brings home a guided reading book or a book from Project Prevent, that can count towards a bat!
Your child also brought home a Surprise Box activity homework page.  This activity goes along with the story we are reading this week.  Please read the instructions carefully and use the attached page to write down the clues.  The clues and the box should be turned in together by Friday.  If they would like to bring it in earlier, that's fine.  We will be presenting the boxes on Friday.  Please keep in mind that they will be transporting these boxes to and from school so you might not want to bring in anything too expensive or fragile!

As always, please let me know if you have any questions!

Have a great day!
Ms. Petrucci
