Updates!

Good afternoon!  We had quite a busy week for it being a short week in school!  The students accomplished many firsts this week and I am SO proud of them!

They did very well on their first math quiz and test!  We are starting Topic 4 on Monday which deals with Addition and Subtraction facts up to 12.  This is a longer chapter with 10 lessons in it, so it will be a little while before our next Math quiz/test.  They will be learning many different strategies to use in addition and subtraction to help master our math facts!

The students also had their very first spelling test!  All students either got a 10/10 or a 9/10!  I am very proud of them!  Keep on practicing those words at home.  It really pays off!

Also- if you are wondering why your child did not get points for bonus words... here is why: In order to get points for bonus words, the students need to spell all of their weekly words correctly.  The first grade team feels it is very important for the students to master those words first and then they can focus on the "challenge/bonus" words.  Thanks for understanding!

One more spelling tidbit... I am not marking off for letter reversal in the first quarter.  It is VERY common for students to reverse their letters in their handwriting early in the year.  I will correct the letter reversal, but I won't mark the word incorrect.  Later in the school year, words will be marked incorrect if the letters are written incorrectly.  You will receive a note identifying when that rule is being applied.

We also had another first today... our first fire drill!  The students did an amazing job with the drill.  I was VERY proud of them!  This is the first of many drills, so I hope they keep up the good work.

Be sure to check out the updated weekly schedule, spelling words and homework sections!

Remember.. Curriculum Night is on Thursday!  I am looking forward to meeting all of you!
Have a great weekend!
Ms. Petrucci
