Happy Friday!
We had a great short week in room 7! We completed our first unit test in Reading. The students did a great job. Just a reminder that I proctor the test out loud and the students fill in their answers as we go. It is imperative that the students do not go ahead as some of the directions of the test change with different questions. Along with the reading test, we also had a high frequency word assessment. The students were assessed on their ability to read the 45 high frequency words from this unit. It is important to note that the words in the "inventory unit" portion of the assessment are review words from Kindergarten. If your child had any words on that list circled, it means they either misread or were not able to read that word. I wrote the word they said next to the original word. If they were not able to read the word, I wrote "skip". You may get rid of any of the blue word cards that were not circled on the list to make room for the new words we will start on Monday.
We will be starting our new Reading Unit "Catch a Dream" on Monday. With each unit, the stories and skills increase in difficulty. I may start sending home a paper copy of the story we read in class if I feel your child could benefit from additional reading practice. Keep in mind the spelling test will be on Thursday this week since the students are not in attendance on Friday.
The students are starting to show their independence in Math. I am so proud! We now only do the front and the back of the math page together in class! They complete all the inside questions by themselves. They also complete the journal portion on the back on their own! They are feeling confident in their skills and are very proud to be able to do the WHOLE inside without help! Keep practicing those math facts at home. I just taught them how to use their flash cards to practice facts at their desk. They love to take them out when they finish work early to practice their facts!
The end of first quarter is approaching! The quarter ends on Thursday and report cards will go home that following Friday. I can't believe we are almost done with a full quarter of school!
I hope you all have a fantastic fall weekend!
:) Ms. Petrucci
