Staley was here!

We had an excellent week and an especially awesome day!

This week we finished our 3rd reading unit.  We will have a week of testing and then begin our 4th and final reading unit the following week.  The stories are getting longer and the words are getting harder, but that is not stopping us!  We are reading better than ever and getting really great at giving "meatier" answers and using expression while reading out loud! I'm so proud of these kids!

In math, we just finished our unit on graphing!  The students did really well at creating real, picture, tally, and bar graphs!  We also worked with comparing different things on a graph and naming each part of a graph.  We are now moving on to Geometry and learning about plane and solid shapes!

There will be no new spelling words next week due to Assessment week, so keep practicing reading the story words so your child will be ready for the assessment!

We will be starting our Science unit on Organisms and Animal Families next week.  This is a large unit and we will have a very special assembly for First Graders only to celebrate this.  It should be pretty "batty" ;)

Thank you to everyone who supported Autism by donating a quarter in order to wear sports apparel.  On Wednesday of next week (the 17th), we will be doing the same thing but it will be a hat day.  Please be aware that the students will only be allowed to wear the hat they brought if they bring in the 25 cents.  If they bring a hat, but no money the hat will stay in their backpack.  Thank you!

To help us celebrate sports day and to teach us a little more about bullying, we had a special visitor!  Staley Da Bear from the one and only Chicago Bears came to visit our school today!  It was an awesome assembly where we learned a lot on how to not be a bully and how to prevent bullying!  We also got to dance with Staley and MAN oh MAN does he have some sweet moves!  The kids really enjoyed seeing a REAL member of the Chicago Bears team (he is number 00!) in their school.  Here are some pictures from the event!

Hope you all have a great weekend!  See you on Thursday night at Celebration of Learning!!!
